2011-2012 MVP

Our 2011-2012 MVP goes to Chanele DaRosa.  Chanele DaRosa has been the number 1 female player on the NYU Badminton Club-Team for the past two years.  In singles and with her doubles partner, Irene Yang, she has brought numerous wins for the team.  This past year Chanele has taken an even more pro-active role in the team, encouraging the team to condition together outside of practice, as well as solidifying team unity by reaching out to them off the courts in the form of team dinners and social events.  In the 2012-2013 school year, she will take on the role of NYU Badminton Club-team captain.  Chanele is a sophomore on the pre-med track majoring in health sciences.

MVP 08-09

This year we have one MVP and two honorable mentions for the NYU Badminton Club-Team. Awards were chosen based on club/team contributions, practice attendance and quality, and coach recommendations.

Our honorable mentions are:

Stevin Ho and Kevin Yang

And our MVP is...

Lu Chen

Lu Chen joined the NYU badminton team in fall 2008. She comes to every practice with a positive attitude. Lu won all her singles matches in every tournament this year. Teaming up with her partner Iris Yang in doubles, together they brought home the most winning points overall for the #1 ranked undefeated women’s team in the Intercollegiate Badminton Association (IBA) 08-09 season. Off the court, Lu may seem like your typical friendly, hard-working graduate student, but on the court she lets everyone know that she is serious about her sport. She is known by the team for her victory cheers during the games. As a member of the club-team, Lu also shares her talents, volunteering some of her own court time to help coach recreational club members in the team-club buddy program which kick-started in the fall. Lu has been an instrumental member of both the club and the team and she will be a valued member for years to come. Lu completed her first degree in Economics and International Studies at Peking University in China and is currently working on her masters in International Relations.

2007-2008 MVP: Kun-ta Wu

Kun-ta joined the NYU Badminton Club in Fall 2007 and was immediately a team favorite. On his second day of practice he was already helping the women's team work on basic footwork. Throughout the semester one could find Kun-ta teaching others on the court and giving coaching advice to general club members when he wasn't training himself. It was clear that Kun-ta is not only an athlete but also a true team player. Throughout the season Kun-ta has approached badminton with enthusiasm and dedication. He holds one of the best attendance records to both games and practice and is always ready and eager to play even after a tough game, when most would need a breather or two. A versatile player, Kun-ta joined the team starting out as a singles and mixed player but soon added doubles to his repertoire when needed, marking many crucial wins that led to the success of this year's nascent team. Kun-ta is a first year graduate student studying Physics.
