Badminton Club At New York University

Hi everyone,

According to the handbook, the deadline to join is the second Friday of the club sports recreation calendar. I had extended the date to last Friday (Sept 28, the third Friday) since I forgot to remind people. Everyone must be on my roster in order to play or they will be considered the same as a non-club members and I cannot allow them to play unless there is space (free space = open courts with no club member waiting to play).

Please spread the word to your friends who haven't yet joined. They can probably come play later in the semester if our attendance numbers start to drop. Unless you've spoken to me already and can bring me (Emily) a club sports athletics information card this Friday (Oct 5), consider the deadline past. (said quite friendly of course)

The deadline to join for the fall-2007 semester will be this Friday, September 28. Please make sure you fill out a club sports athelete's information card and hand it to Emily Chan so you can be added to the club roster.  According to club sports rules, we cannot let you play if you are not on our roster, and we will not be able to accept new members until the Spring semester.

An NYU mailing list has been created for the our club! Everyone (hopefully) has been added who submitted a white card to the first meeting or e-mailed me otherwise. You can add yourself to the mailing list through your NYU home account by going to "Browse and Subscribe to a new list" on your NYU home page when you first log-in. I will e-mail out to the list if there are any last minute cancellations to our Friday or Sunday setups.

This is a moderated list, but you can also send an e-mail out to the club to nyubadminton@lists.nyu.edu (for social events, upcoming nearby tournaments, etc). But please still direct all individual questions to Emily at ec1214@med.nyu.edu.

How to become a NYU Badminton Club Member?

(1) You must be either an NYU Student or NYU faculty or NYU staff or alumni Coles member.

(2) You must read, understand and sign the NYU Badminton Club Member Guidelines & Agreement (will be available at the first meeting) and have it returned to NYU Badminton Club officer by the first two weeks of the semester.

(3) You must fill and sign the NYU Student Club-Sport Athlete Information Form and have it returned to NYU Badminton Club officer (see Emily, ec1214@med.nyu.edu) by the first two weeks of the semester.

(4) This is a membership club. However, club dues will be set by the first meeting.

***We will be collecting the two forms listed above during our regular meetings (Friday & Sunday) at Coles Sport Center. ***

How to become a NYU Badminton Team Player?

12 individuals, ideally 6 males and 6 females will be selected to compete as part of the NYU extramural team. To represent the NYU Badminton Team in intercollegiate tournaments, one must first be a club member and a fulltime graduate or undergraduate student.  Tryouts are based on a ladder system.  The ladder order for each category (MS, MD, WS, WD, and MD) will be determined at the beginning of the semester (Setember 16 and 21 for the fall 07 semester).  Players may place themselves on ladders they wish to compete in. Players may move up and down the ladder by arranging a challenge with the player immediately above them.  When a tournament is scheduled, the team will generally take the highest-ranked players who are available for the meet.  Challenges can be made throughout the year, but no challenges can be made within the week before a tournament. Challenges must be reported to the coach and team captains. The ladder will be updated monthly on the club webpage. The NYU Badminton Team competes on an annual basis in the Northeast Intercollegiate Badminton League of the Southwest division and also competes with local teams.
