Badminton this week
Several orders of business
1. First practice Sunday 5-7:30pm. No Badminton this Friday
2. Team, Games
3. Coaching
4. Club leadership positions
1. First practice Sunday, 5-7:30pm. No Badminton this Friday.
Our first official practice for the club will be Sunday, February 3 from 5-7:30pm. Please bring your rackets and be ready to play! Shuttles will be provided.
For those of you that are new, we meet at Coles Sports Center downstairs by the squash courts. If you were not a member during the fall semester, you will need to fill out a club sports athlete information card located here: http://www.nyu.edu/athletics/clubs/WhiteCard.pdf
Please bring the completed form to the meeting.
2. Team/Games
Those of you who were on the team in the fall semester will remain on the ladder. If you are new and would like to play competively, please let me know so I can assess your playing level (by having you play some of the current team members).
Our first game is a home game against Drexel Univeristy on Sunday, February 17.
3. We will also have our guest coach here this Sunday, Alex Jacob. Coaching will be done in pairs on a sign-up sheet basis for 30-45 minute sessions. If you are interested in coaching, please write your name on the sheet with your partner and I will let you know approximately when your time will be. Priority will be given to team members.
4. Club leadership
Now that I've done this for a semester now, I am hoping to delegate duties so that we can have a more student involved club next year and that way we can do what the club wants to do. I'll put together a description of roles/duties and hopefully we can do an election the first week of March. Please let me know if you'd like to run for any of these positions. You must be a student for the 2008-2009 school year and preferably a member of the club for at least one semester.
President: Works with the members of the board as well as the coach. Serves as liaison to Coles administration. Submits final paperwork, etc.
Tournament Coordinator: Serves as a liaison to other schools. Duties include scheduling home and away games and travel options.
Secretary/Historian: Duties include sending out weekly reminders of setup hours for the week. Also forwards messages to the webmaster to be placed on the web. Duties also include collecting and alphabetizing the athlete information cards at the beginning of each semester for the club roster and putting together the club mailing list. Historian: documents club events/pictures?
Treasurer: Fall T-shirts (not responsible for drawing the design, but in charge of taking/placing orders). Annual inventory and ordering of shuttles. We can also look into a racket restringing machine.
Club Coordinator: NYU Badminton is both a club and a team. The club coordinator will take care of the needs of the general club including monitoring the non-team courts. Plan social events.
WebManager: Posts updates to the webpage. It would be good if we could design a new page. Our current webpage is owned by a previous coach and we don't have very many options to make changes/post pictures, etc. The current site is blog style.
Team captains: Generally the top men's and women's players. Work with the coach to organize practices and game strategy for tournaments.
