Happy New Year, Welcome back!

Our first spring meeting will (most likely) be Friday January 29.  There may be open gym between now and then.  Look for Julian's e-mails for the schedule.

INACTIVE MEMBERS PLEASE READ: To make room for new members, I will be removing members who never showed up after the first 4 weeks of the fall semester. If you wish to remain on the roster but did not show up very often last fall, just send me a message by February 5 indicating your wish to remain in the club (and then show up!!).  Remember, you must be on my official roster to play during club hours (which essentially means no roster, no badminton for you. It sounds harsh, but those are the rules).

FOR PEOPLE NEW TO NYU BADMINTON, or for those of you with friends that are looking to join us in the spring: I will take new sign ups up until Friday, February 5, 8pm.  Please follow the instructions below:

All new members MUST fill out a club sports athlete information card.  Please copy and paste this link (http://www.nyu.edu/athletics/clubs/WhiteCard.pdf) into your browser. Print, fill it out, and give it to me at practice or leave it in the Badminton Club mailbox in the Coles Staff Office area by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5. No electronic copies allowed. No exceptions. If you are not on the roster, you cannot play.  Those are the rules.

A little information about us: We meet on Fridays (6-8pm club, 8-10:30pm team practice) and Sundays (4-7:30pm). You must bring your own racket.  Bringing your own shuttles is highly recommended, though NYU does provide some plastic shuttles for use.  We are a casual club. Practice is not mandatory (unless you are on the team) but I expect to see you somewhat regularly to remain on the roster. If you are a more advanced player interested in competitive badminton, please contact me.

Okay, questions? Ask away.  Those of you still on break, hope you enjoy! See you all soon

Fall Sign-ups Info

If you plan to participate in badminton this year, please read!

EVERYONE must fill out a club sports athlete information card in order to join for fall 2009. Please copy and paste this link into your browser to download a copy: http://www.nyu.edu/athletics/clubs/WhiteCard.pdf
You must turn in a hard copy!! You can turn it in at the clubfest, leave it in the badminton mailbox in the Coles staff office, or bring it with you to the first meeting (Friday, September 18, 7pm). E-mailed versions will not be accepted. No exceptions! Even if you were in the club last year, you must fill out a new info card. Deadline to sign up will be Sunday, September 20th at 7:30pm.

If you are interested in the team (students only), Friday, October 2 will be the one and only day for tryouts. Only those that can commit to training every Friday night as well as participate in Sat/Sun competitions (~3 per semester) should try out. The tryout procedure will go approximately as follows: Our coach will come and observe how you play to make an initial cut, and then he will formulate the final team by the end of the day. As a team member you benefit by representing NYU, free coaching, free travel to local schools (Princeton, Yale, UPenn) for tournaments, and free use of feather shuttles during practice. It's also a great bonding environment over badminton!
