08-09 IBA final standings

The badminton club-team did very well this year. Our men's team finished ranked 3, women's team ranked 1, and mixed team ranked 4. Great job team! More details can be located here: http://ibabadminton.com/IBArankings.htm

MVP 08-09

This year we have one MVP and two honorable mentions for the NYU Badminton Club-Team. Awards were chosen based on club/team contributions, practice attendance and quality, and coach recommendations.

Our honorable mentions are:

Stevin Ho and Kevin Yang

And our MVP is...

Lu Chen

Lu Chen joined the NYU badminton team in fall 2008. She comes to every practice with a positive attitude. Lu won all her singles matches in every tournament this year. Teaming up with her partner Iris Yang in doubles, together they brought home the most winning points overall for the #1 ranked undefeated women’s team in the Intercollegiate Badminton Association (IBA) 08-09 season. Off the court, Lu may seem like your typical friendly, hard-working graduate student, but on the court she lets everyone know that she is serious about her sport. She is known by the team for her victory cheers during the games. As a member of the club-team, Lu also shares her talents, volunteering some of her own court time to help coach recreational club members in the team-club buddy program which kick-started in the fall. Lu has been an instrumental member of both the club and the team and she will be a valued member for years to come. Lu completed her first degree in Economics and International Studies at Peking University in China and is currently working on her masters in International Relations.

This week's schedule

Unfortunately there will be no badminton this Friday due to a basketball game. Sunday's practice also depends on how fast basketball finishes.

If you'd like to play Sunday, you should call Coles first 212-998-2020. If I find out during the day that courts are available, I'll send an e-mail out but there will be no official practice this weekend.

Congrats to our women's team which remains undefeated for their win against Bryn Mawr (8-1) this past weekend. Our men's team also played well, defeating UPenn (6-3) but suffering its first loss against Drexel (4-5).

February 24, 2009

this week's schedule

 Friday 7-10:30pm recreational play
 Sunday: 4:30-7:30pm recreational play

A few things to note:
 1. Our courts technically should be set up at 6pm on Friday, but it was scheduled as "badminton class cancelled." I probably won't be there early enough to clear up any misunderstandings so come at your own risk. If I get confirmation, I'll send another e-mail out for those of you wanting to play earlier.

2. Please bring your own shuttles if you have them. NYU's supply is fairly low and another order won't go out until summer.

3. On Sunday, I will be with the team in Philly for a match against Drexel, UPenn and Bryn Mawr so definitely bring your own shuttles if you plan on playing Sunday.

4. To minimize court wait times, I highly encourage non-team members to play Sunday, as more team members will probably show up Friday for some last minute practice before their tournament.

save the date!

Hi Everyone. We're trying to plan an NYU only tournament. It'll be tentatively Saturday April 4th (but may be changed to Friday evening and Sunday if we can't get the date). So save the weekend and start thinking about partners!  See below for a message from tournament organizers, Fabrice and Winnie.
